I take great pleasure to welcome you to Spier, Stellenbosch and Cape Town, to the third joint satellite Cancer Imaging Course, presented by the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA) and the International Cancer Imaging Society (ICIS).
As a result of the success of the first joint meetings in 2009 and 2013 , both societies agreed to the establishment of inter society follow up meetings. After almost 2 years of planning , the 2018 Cancer Imaging Course has been established to meet the important challenges of advancing imaging in the multidisciplinary management of cancer. The course offers an extremely well balanced and full programme, presented by an international faculty of highly distinguished international oncological radiologists. They will focus and address a wide variety of topics important to daily practice as well as the basics of cancer imaging.
A course of this nature is absolutely essential for all South African/African radiologists. The comprehensive syllabus covers all the major organ systems and cancer imaging modalities, from “adult head to paediatric toe”. The well balanced programme consists of didactic lectures in the mornings, followed by case-based workshops in the afternoons. Lectures will cover the Basic and Applied Anatomy, staging and treatment planning focused on what the surgeon or oncologist needs to know and post treatment follow-up.
Clinical oncologists, radiotherapists, oncology surgical specialists, radiotherapy as well as diagnostic radiographers will gain enormous benefit from this course. It is designed for everyone with a special interest in Oncology.
The programme at the historic Spier wine estate will allow ample time to meet colleagues and initiate new friendships.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of all our sponsors. Without them, events like these cannot be hosted and their commitment to Radiology, training and teaching is appreciated and indispensable. Thank you very much.
On behalf of the RSSA, the ICIS Satellite Committee Chair, Prof. Harriet Thony (Switzerland) invites you to this very special meeting. We look forward to welcome Professors Theresa McLoud (USA), Evis Sala (USA) and Wolfgang Schima (Austria) to South Africa.
